ED Probes Properties Bought by Sandip Ghosh's Wife Without Govt Approval

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has alleged that Dr. Sangeeta Ghosh, wife of Sandip Ghosh, former principal of Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, acquired two properties without proper state government approval. The ED made this claim in a statement on Tuesday.

ED Probes Ghoshs Property Buys

Properties and Approvals

The federal agency stated that during searches conducted on September 6 at seven locations in Kolkata, documents were found related to several properties owned by the Ghosh couple. These include half-a-dozen houses, flats, and a farmhouse. The ED noted that Dr. Sangeeta Ghosh received post facto approval for purchasing one of the properties from her husband in 2021.

Sandip Ghosh was serving as the principal of RG Kar hospital at the time, while Dr. Sangeeta Ghosh was an assistant professor there. The ED also mentioned that documents related to a flat in Murshidabad, three flats in Kolkata, and two houses in Kolkata were discovered during the raids.

Financial Irregularities and Legal Proceedings

Sandip Ghosh is under investigation for alleged financial irregularities linked to a money laundering case. This case came to light after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed an FIR against him. The ex-principal became a person of interest following the rape and murder of a 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor at the hospital on August 9.

During the searches, various incriminating documents and digital devices belonging to Sandip Ghosh were seized. The ED suspects these properties were purchased using proceeds from criminal activities.

Judicial Custody

A Kolkata court has sent Sandip Ghosh to judicial custody until September 23 in connection with the CBI case. Alongside him, his security personnel Afsar Ali and two associates—medical equipment vendor Biplab Singha and pharmacy shop owner Suman Hazara—were also remanded to judicial custody until the same date.

The ED's investigation continues as they scrutinise the seized documents and digital devices for further evidence. The agency aims to uncover more details about the alleged financial misconduct involving Sandip Ghosh and his associates.

The case remains under close watch as authorities delve deeper into the financial dealings of the former principal and his wife.
