ED Files Chargesheet Against Bookie Anil Jaisinghani Who Tried Extorting Amruta Fadnavis

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed a charge sheet against Anil Jaisinghani, an alleged cricket bookie, in connection with a money laundering investigation related to a 2015 IPL betting case.

Jaisinghani, who was arrested by the federal agency in April, is accused of evading summons and non-cooperation in the ongoing investigation.

A special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court had issued a non-bailable warrant against Jaisinghani in 2015. The ED stated that he failed to cooperate with the authorities, leading to his arrest.

Recently, Jaisinghani and his daughter Aniksha were also arrested by the Mumbai Police on charges of conspiring to bribe and blackmail Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis' wife, Amruta Fadnavis. It was alleged that private messages were used to extort money from her when she refused to intervene on Jaisinghani's behalf.

The ED's case against Jaisinghani stems from a 2015 FIR filed by the Vadodara Police, which implicated several bookies involved in betting on Indian Premier League (IPL) matches. According to the ED, Jaisinghani was actively engaged in cricket betting and had amassed a significant amount of illicit funds through fraudulent means and connections with the betting entity Maruti-Ahmedabad.

In May, the ED conducted raids at Jaisinghani's premises, and on June 5, a hotel property worth Rs 3.40 crore located in Shirdi, Maharashtra, was provisionally attached by the agency. Subsequently, on June 6, the ED filed a charge sheet against Jaisinghani under money laundering charges. The special PMLA court in Ahmedabad has taken cognizance of the prosecution complaint, marking a significant development in the case.
