In a shocking incident, a 72-year-old Dutch tourist, Anthony Von Arkel, found himself in a harrowing situation during his visit to India. While staying in Puri, Odisha, Arkel claims that he was robbed by a taxi driver and subsequently locked up in a house in Bhubaneswar for three days.

Robbery and Confinement
Arkel's ordeal began on January 9 when he traveled from Puri to Bhubaneswar to exchange foreign currency. During his journey, the taxi driver allegedly robbed him of his money when he stepped out of the car. Following the robbery, the driver took Arkel to his parental house and confined him there for three days.
Seeking Help and Shelter
After managing to escape with the help of some youths, Arkel returned to Puri and filed a complaint with the police on January 25. With limited financial resources, he was forced to stay in a shelter home for beggars from January 25 to March 1.
Media Intervention and State Support
Arkel's plight came to light when the media reported his story. The Puri district administration promptly intervened and arranged for his stay at the state guest house. Despite his unfortunate experience, Arkel expressed his love for India and acknowledged the support he received from the media and the state government.
Police Action
The Puri Superintendent of Police, Pinak Mishra, assured that the accused taxi driver has been identified and efforts are underway to apprehend him.
Anthony Von Arkel's experience serves as a reminder of the importance of tourist safety and the need for vigilance when traveling in unfamiliar places. While the incident highlights the challenges that foreign tourists may face, it also demonstrates the willingness of Indian authorities and the public to assist those in need.
