President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the Vijayadashami festivities on October 12. They attended an event organised by the Shri Dharmik Leela Committee at Madhav Das Park in Delhi. During the celebrations, they held a bow and arrow to perform the Raavan Dahan, a symbolic act marking the victory of good over evil.

Before this, President Murmu and PM Modi applied 'tilak' on the foreheads of artists portraying Lord Ram and Lakshman at the park. This gesture is a traditional part of the festivities, symbolising respect and blessings for those enacting these revered characters.

Significance of Vijayadashami

Vijayadashami, also known as Dussehra, is a significant Hindu festival celebrated annually at Navaratri's end. It occurs on Ashvin's tenth day in the Hindu Luni-Solar Calendar. This usually corresponds to September or October in the Gregorian calendar. The festival marks various cultural tales, most notably Lord Rama's victory over Ravana.

The celebration of Vijayadashami is widespread across India, with each region having its unique customs and stories associated with it. The most famous tale is that of Lord Rama defeating Ravana, which is a central theme in many parts of India during this festival.

Dussehra's Cultural Impact

Vijayadashami not only celebrates victory but also heralds preparations for Diwali, another major festival celebrated twenty days later. Diwali, known as the festival of lights, holds immense cultural significance and is eagerly awaited by millions across India.

The festival brings communities together as people engage in various activities such as fairs, processions, and enactments of historical tales. These events foster a sense of unity and cultural pride among participants and spectators alike.

The presence of prominent figures like President Murmu and PM Modi at such events highlights the importance of these traditions in Indian society. Their participation underscores the cultural heritage that continues to thrive through these celebrations.

As Vijayadashami concludes Navaratri with joy and devotion, it sets the stage for Diwali preparations. This transition from one festive period to another reflects India's rich tapestry of traditions that are cherished by people from all walks of life.
