Dumka Gang-Rape Update: Jharkhand Judge's Response To Meeting Spanish Vlogger

An update on the condition of the Spanish travel vlogger, who was allegedly gang-raped in Jharkhand's Dumka, was provided by the principal district judge of Dumka, Anil Kumar Mishra.

Mishra stated that the victim is physically stable but emotionally shattered after the traumatic incident. Mishra, who also chairs the District Legal Services Authority, met with the victim and submitted a report to the Jharkhand Legal Services Authority (JHALSA).

In the report, it was highlighted that efforts were made by Mishra's team to ensure the victim's security and safety during the ongoing investigation. Additionally, assistance was provided to her in recording her statement under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. Mishra further ordered a compensation of ₹10 lakh to be provided to the victim.

It was emphasized in the report that reassurance was given to the victim that the perpetrators would be apprehended and brought to justice swiftly. Despite her emotional distress, the victim's physical condition was reported to be stable, with ongoing medical examinations.

Four individuals have been arrested by the Jharkhand police in connection with the case, while efforts are underway to locate the remaining accused. Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad has taken suo moto cognizance of the case, and the police have been directed to provide regular updates on the progress of the investigation. The incident has garnered widespread attention, prompting reactions from public figures such as Richa Chadha and Dulquer Salman.

Spanish Couple Appeals on Social Media to Find Accused

On social media, a photo of the accused was posted by the Spanish couple, appealing to the public to assist them and the police in locating him. In their post, it was stated by them that India is a "great country and worth visiting", and gratitude was expressed towards the administration for all their assistance.

In their post, it was mentioned by the couple, "The point is that a rape or a robbery can happen to you, to your brother, to your mother, to your daughter, to anyone. No one is free from that, in any country in the world. It has happened in Spain, many times. It has happened all over the world... There are violations in all countries in Spain, Brazil, America... So don't talk nonsense that it's because we are in India."

A directive was issued by the Jharkhand High Court on Monday, instructing the superintendent of police in Dumka to submit a status report on the matter by Thursday, when the next hearing in the case is scheduled.
