Drunk Driving Incident Leads to Police Custody for IT Professional Charged with Culpable Homicide

A 49-year-old IT professional has been remanded to police custody after a drunk driving incident resulted in the death of a valet assistant in Navi Mumbai. The accused, Pratap Daingade, faces charges of culpable homicide following the tragic event outside Toit restaurant.

A 49-year-old IT worker was taken into police custody for two days after allegedly driving his car into a counter outside a restaurant while intoxicated, resulting in the death of a valet assistant. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon at the Toit restaurant in Kalyani Nagar. The accused, Pratap Daingade, was arrested for culpable homicide and appeared in court on Monday.

Daingade, who resides in Navi Mumbai, works at a BPO in Yerawada. On the day of the incident, he arrived at the restaurant already under the influence of alcohol and ordered a beer. His behaviour was disruptive as he moved from table to table. The restaurant staff asked him to behave and refused to serve him more alcohol.

Drunk Driving Incident Outside Restaurant

The prosecution argued that Daingade ignored warnings about drunk driving risks. Despite requests from the restaurant staff to avoid driving, he recklessly drove his car, hitting valet assistant Satendar Mandal. Mandal was severely injured and declared dead upon arrival at a nearby hospital.

According to senior inspector Anjum Bagwan from Yerawada police station, the restaurant manager advised Daingade to take a cab instead of driving. However, Daingade insisted on driving his own car. He reversed the vehicle and accelerated while attempting to turn, leading to the tragic accident.

Legal Proceedings and Arrest

The court remanded Daingade to police custody as they sought further investigation into the case. The prosecution highlighted that Daingade's actions were reckless and showed disregard for safety warnings. The incident has raised concerns about the dangers of drunk driving and its consequences.

The case underscores the importance of adhering to safety advice and avoiding driving under the influence. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragic event, aiming to prevent similar incidents in the future.
