Double standards: Naxals spend Rs 22 lakh on their children’s education
The Union Government has put in place a mechanism that aims at choking the funds of naxalites. The move to set up a special unit within the NIA to track funds of naxals came after it was found that the Maoists had amassed huge amounts of wealth and assets.
It was found that the naxalites were using extortion money to build assets. Most of the mooney has been diverted to the coffers of their leaders and they have been building assets, a home ministry official informed OneIndia.

The naxals have been imposing a levy on local contractors through which they have been earning huge sums of money. Further they are also running a huge extortion racket and diverting the money to their leaders, the official also noted.
Money is also being earned through illegal mining, stone crushing and sale of naxal literature.
It was found that a large sum of money has been invested in the education for the children of the naxalites. While tracking the funds, it was found that in several instances naxals and ended up paying school fees to the tune of Rs 22 lakh for their children.
The Enforcement Directorate which conducted the probe registered at least 3 cases under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. The agency had also attached properties to the extent of 32 acres apart from seizing cash to the tune of Rs 2 crore.
