Donald Trump’s Immigration Order Sparks Meme Fest On NRIs: 'Enjoy Amritkaal, UPI, Vande Bharat'
Soon after being sworn in as the 47th President of the United States, Donald Trump issued a flurry of major executive orders and directives, including measures on criminal pardons and immigration. Among the orders was a controversial decision to end automatic birthright citizenship for children of non-permanent residents.
This move marks a crucial shift in US immigration policy and could potentially affect millions of Indians residing in the country on temporary visas. In response, India announced plans to repatriate 18,000 of its citizens currently living illegally in the US.

Although the precise impact of the orders on Indians in the US remains unclear, many Indians back home have taken to sharing memes and social media posts. Some are sincere, while others playfully encourage their compatriots to return to India, often highlighting the nation's developmental achievements.
One user quipped, "So many NRIs talking up India, that it's all paradise on wheels here. Thanks to Trump, you chaps can now come home and savour these joys!"
Another observed, "Indian Americans are finally realising what Jewish Americans have known for decades: Just because you love this country doesn't mean it has to love you back. If you are American of Indian heritage and love America, it is time to fight, fight, fight."
A user jokingly suggested that marriage could be the solution for Indians wishing to stay in the US. "Trump just told half a billion Indian men that the only way they'll get their American dream is by marrying American women. The Wignats are about to witness something they hadn't before," they remarked.
Meanwhile, an entrepreneur shared that some of his friends in the US were considering returning to India. "Spoke with some NRI friends in the US. They showed great happiness in the fact that, due to the huge uncertainty, they will now leave America and return home to India with their entire family, forever. They are now beginning to liquidate their assets and remitting everything back home. Good for India. Let's have all of them back," wrote Sandeep Manudhane.
One user issued a humorous warning about the potential impact of highly educated Indians returning. "Arey tum log itna khush kyo ho rahe ho, sare H1B candidates India wapas aagaye to tumhare liye jobs nahi bachengi," they said.
Another suggested an alternative destination for migration: "Dubai - No citizenship, 10-year golden visa - unlimited freedom, easy renewal. US - No citizenship, 3-year visa - limited freedom, painful renewal," they wrote.
