"Don't treat us like 5-year-olds, Reform Film Censor Board" - A Petition
"We are not 5-year-olds, we are adults who can handle mature content. A movie will not ruin our morals or our culture. But censorship will ruin our country."
- Says a petition demanding no censorship in A-rated movies.
The debate over film censorship in India came to the fore recently after India's Film Censor Board reduced the duration of few long kissing scenes in a James Bond film 'Spectre'.
In the aftermath of these cuts, 'Sanskari James Bond' was trending on Twitter and Facebook. It led to a furious debate over government's right to teach people morality.
Chairman of Central Board of Film Certification Pahlaj Nihlani was embarrased by Arnab Goswami on Times Now. The Video became viral.
Following the debate over Film Certification in India, the government has constituted a committee, headed by the film-maker Shyam Benegal, to suggest measures to help Board members understand the nuances of film certification.
Through the recent petition, the petitioner wants to "show him (Benegal) that Indians are sick of mindless and needless censorship".
