Doklam standoff: Indo-Nepal relations will be put to test

India would also closely watch the visit by China's vice premier, Wang Yang to Nepal on August 14.

The Indo-Nepal relations will be put to test amidst the Doklam standoff. All eyes would be on the visit by Nepal Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba to New Delhi during which Nepal's position on the bilateral issues between India and China would be highlighted.

China's outreach to Nepal would be an issue that would be discussed during the visit. Following this visit, External Affairs Minsiter, Sushma Swaraj would travel to Kathmandu to take part in the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation on August 10.

India has said that the visit would also have a bi-lateral component. The MEA in its briefing last week had said that the minister would hold a bi-lateral apart from the multilateral meetings.

India would also closely watch the visit by China's vice premier, Wang Yang to Nepal on August 14. Nepal has indicated that the visit would be a routine one. However Yang has made several visits to Kathmandu in the recent past and in recent time emerged as an expert on South Asia.
