Resident Doctors in Delhi Hold Candlelight March for Justice

The resident doctors from major hospitals, including AIIMS, Safdarjung, and GTB Hospital, held a candlelight march on Wednesday night. This event aimed to intensify their call for justice and show solidarity with fellow healthcare professionals.

Doctors Candlelight March for Justice

The march took place on the premises of these hospitals as a symbolic gesture. It aimed to raise awareness about the ongoing issues faced by medical staff and demand justice for the trainee doctor who was raped and murdered at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital last month.

#JusticeForRGKar Movement

At AIIMS, all Resident Doctors Association (RDA) members, faculty members, and nursing staff participated in a silent protest. A spokesperson from the AIIMS RDA said, "The candlelight march was part of the larger #JusticeForRGKar movement, underscoring the collective demand for justice."

The resident doctors held the march from 9 pm to 10 pm. During this time, all resident doctors participated, holding posters and raising slogans on the premises.

Collective Decision

RDA GTB Vice President Parth Mishra stated, "For justice for the victim and for the security of doctors, we held a candlelight march, which was collectively decided by our RDA members." He added that although they have called off their strike, they are still fighting for justice through this silent protest.

The event was described as more than just a march. "The event is not just a march but a collective whisper, a resounding call for justice and solidarity with our fellow healthcare professionals at RG KAR," said a statement from the organisers.

Indefinite Strike

Earlier last month, resident doctors across the country went on an indefinite strike starting August 12. This followed the discovery of the trainee doctor's body on the premises of the state-run hospital in Kolkata on August 9.

During the 11-day strike, all elective services, wards, and OPDs were suspended. The doctors called off their strike after a Supreme Court hearing on August 22.

"We are resuming duties following the Supreme Court's appeal, assurances and intervention in the RG Kar incident and the safety of doctors. We commend the court's action and call for adherence to its directives," said the doctors.

The candlelight march highlighted ongoing concerns about safety and justice within the medical community. The collective efforts of these healthcare professionals continue to draw attention to these critical issues.
