Disturbing Footage: Andhra Pradesh College Student Jumps to Death from Third Floor

In a heart-wrenching incident captured by surveillance cameras, a first-year student at Narayana College in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, tragically ended his life by leaping from the third floor of the college building. The student, identified as Charan, took this drastic step during class hours, leaving his classmates and the educational community in shock.

The footage, recorded around 10:15 AM, shows Charan quietly exiting his classroom, removing his footwear at the door, and then making his way to the ledge from where he jumped. The sudden commotion prompted his classmates to rush out, only to witness the devastating scene. The reasons behind Charan's decision to end his life are still under investigation.

In another sorrowful event, a 21-year-old aerospace engineering student at BMS College of Engineering in Bengaluru's Hanumantha Nagar took his own life by jumping from the fifth floor of the college building. The incident, which occurred in a relatively quiet campus at around 4:45 pm, has been attributed to family-related issues. Prior to his tragic decision, the student had reached out to his parents, expressing distress over personal matters. A diligent student, he had attended his internal examinations earlier that day, scoring 38 out of 50. He lived with his parents in Anekal and commuted daily to college.

These incidents underscore the pressing issue of student suicides, a concern that is not confined to a single city or state. For instance, Kota, Rajasthan, known for its coaching centers, has witnessed a distressing number of student suicides.

In January 2025 alone, six students took their lives in Kota. Among them was an 18-year-old from Assam, preparing for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE-Mains), who was found by his mother, hanged in his room. Additionally, a 23-year-old woman, originally from Ahmedabad and living in a paying guest accommodation while preparing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), also ended her life. These tragedies occurred under the jurisdiction of Kota's Jawahar Nagar police station, raising alarms about the mental well-being of students in competitive academic environments.
