Diesel Paratha Viral Video: Netizens Call For Food Safety Regulations
Parathas are a popular part of Indian meals, often eaten for breakfast, lunch, or even dinner. These flatbreads are filled with ingredients like potatoes, cauliflower, radish, onions, eggs, chicken, or mutton. They're usually made with care and served with pickles or curd.
Most commonly, they're cooked with ghee or butter. But there was a surprising incident at a 'dhaba' in Chandigarh when someone was seen cooking parathas using diesel fuel.

In a video shared by @nebula_world on May 12, a man inquires about the dish being prepared by a cook named Bablu, who responds with "diesel" paratha. Bablu wearing black sunglasses begins by rolling out the dough and filling it with a potato mixture before cooking it in a pan. He then proceeds to pour a considerable amount of oil over the paratha, referring to it as "diesel."
Since its posting, the video has garnered significant attention, accumulating over four lakh likes and continuing to increase. Additionally, the share has received more than 1,100 likes and numerous comments. However, it's worth noting that the original tweet has been removed, presumably for reasons related to justice.
Netizens expressed concern over the health risks associated with consuming a dish cooked with diesel or petrol, highlighting the inflammable nature of these fuels. Some even labelled the experiment as a potential cause of cancer.
Others questioned the absence of food safety regulations for street foods in India, while one user humorously suggested that the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) might have been shocked to see the video.
Furthermore, there were doubts regarding the suitability of the substance used in the dish for human consumption, with one user speculating about the possibility of recycled cooking oil being employed.
A cautionary message advised against eating street food altogether, recommending only patronising reputable restaurants for meals.
Meanwhile, a cynical remark implied that the cook's purported wealth from selling the dish might be offset by the medical expenses incurred by his customers due to potential health issues.
Numerous viewers in the comment section urged the relevant authorities to promptly investigate and regulate such irresponsible behaviour.
The viral video raises questions about the direction we are heading in the era of social media, where some individuals resort to doing startling things simply to follow trends.
