The viral Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) satirical trend continues to dominate social media, but the meme-based political movement is now under scrutiny after APK files and fake invitation links claiming to offer CJP membership began circulating online. Cybersecurity experts have warned that scammers may be exploiting the viral trend to target curious users through phishing attempts and malicious downloads.

At the same time, the meteoric rise of India's Cockroach Janata Party across social media platforms has reportedly inspired similar meme-based groups in Pakistan, including the Cockroach Awami Party (CAP) and the Cockroach Awami League (CAL).

Fake 'Join CJP' Links Raise Cybersecurity Concerns

Several users on WhatsApp and Instagram have reported receiving suspicious messages claiming to offer membership or exclusive access to the "Cockroach Janata Party." Messages such as "Join the Cockroach Janata Party by clicking this link" are reportedly circulating widely across social media platforms.

Experts caution that these links may lead to phishing websites designed to steal sensitive information including OTPs, banking credentials, WhatsApp access and identity details.

Cybersecurity analysts say viral internet trends and satirical meme movements are increasingly becoming tools for online scammers because users are more likely to trust entertaining or humorous content without verifying the source.

In some cases, stolen information may allegedly be used to create fake UPI accounts, conduct financial fraud or even apply for fraudulent loans using a victim's identity.

Authorities have advised users not to click on unknown or shortened links shared through WhatsApp groups, Telegram channels or Instagram DMs. Users are also being encouraged to enable two-factor authentication and avoid sharing passwords or OTPs online.

Satirical Meme Movement Continues to Grow

The CJP emerged in mid May after reported remarks by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant comparing unemployed youth involved in activism to "cockroaches" and "parasites" triggered widespread reactions online. Although the CJI later issued a clarification, the controversy had already gained momentum across social media platforms.

Capitalising on the viral debate, US based public relations graduate and former Aam Aadmi Party associate Abhijeet Dipke launched the Cockroach Janta Party on May 16 through social media platforms along with a Google Form based membership campaign.

"Yeah, I am the cockroach. The Chief Justice of India was exactly talking about me," Dipke told India Today TV in an interview.

The Cockroach Janata Party has emerged as one of India's biggest satirical meme-driven internet movements in recent weeks, particularly among Gen Z users. The trend gained further momentum after controversy surrounding restrictions on its X account in India, which triggered even more memes, reposts and online debates.

With every new rumour, meme and viral graphic attracting millions of views, experts say users should remain cautious, especially when interacting with links, downloads or pages trying to capitalise on the trend's popularity.
