Did Vijay Rupani’s ‘Lucky’ Number 1206 Predict His Final Flight?
A bizarre string of coincidences involving the number 1206 has emerged following the death of former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani in the tragic Air India crash on June 12. The number, which Rupani reportedly considered auspicious, appeared repeatedly in various aspects of his final journey, prompting curiosity and speculation online.

According to reports, 1206 was long believed to be his lucky number. His old scooter, Activa, and personal vehicles all bore registration plates ending in 1206. But what once signified fortune is now being viewed with a sense of eerie foreboding.
On the day of the crash, Rupani was:
- Boarding at 12:10 PM
- Seated in 12D
- Holding ticket serial number 12
- Flying on 12/06 (June 12)
The consistency of the number across unrelated details has left many wondering whether this was a coincidence or a cosmic code.
The 68-year-old leader had delayed his travel plans to the United Kingdom from June 5 to June 12, reportedly to accommodate internal party affairs, including preparations for the upcoming Ludhiana West bypoll. He was flying to London to visit his wife and daughter.
He boarded Air India Flight AI171, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad. The aircraft, carrying 242 people-including 169 Indians, 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese citizens, and one Canadian-issued a MAYDAY call minutes after takeoff and crashed near Meghaninagar, striking a doctors' hostel associated with a medical college.
The aircraft exploded on impact, killing over 240 people, including Vijay Rupani and dozens of medical students. Only one survivor, a British national of Indian origin, made it out alive.
Adding to the intrigue, an Instagram video posted shortly before the flight by British yoga influencer Jamie Meek and his partner Fiongal Greenlaw-Meek unknowingly captured Rupani in the background. In the clip, the couple bids farewell to India while seated at the airport. Rupani is seen walking past, speaking on the phone, in what may be his last known visual.
Born in Rangoon (now Yangon) in 1956, Rupani's family moved to Rajkot during political turmoil in Burma. He entered politics as a student activist, eventually rising to become Gujarat's 16th Chief Minister, a close aide of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and one of the BJP's most recognized leaders in the state.
Rupani and his wife, Anjaliben, had set up a charitable trust after the death of their son, Pujit, in an accident. The trust continues to work for the welfare of women and children from underprivileged backgrounds.
While investigations into the Air India crash are ongoing, the strange recurrence of the number 1206 has added an unusual layer to an already heartbreaking story-one that blends numerology, fate, and tragedy in an unsettling narrative.
