Democracy Is Our ‘Sanskar’ Says PM Modi At Inaugural Of New Parliament Building

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that democracy is our 'Sanskar.' He was speaking at the inaugural of the new Parliament building on Sunday.

We are a proud nation today, the PM said. From panchayat bhawan to Sansad bhawan our inspiration is the development of the nation and its people, he said. Today, as we are proud of the construction of the new Parliament, it also gives me immense pleasure when I think of the construction of the homes of 4 crore poor people and 11 crore toilets in the country, PM Modi also said.

When we speak about the modern facilities in the Parliament, I feel happy that we have constructed over 4 lakh kilometres of roads to connect villages to the country, the PM also said.

Justifying the construction of the new building, the PM said, "in future when the number of MPs increase, where will they sit. Hence the new building was the need of the hour."

He also said that the construction of the new Parliament building gave employment to 60,000 workers.

Several years of foreign rule stole our pride from us and today India has left behind that colonial mindset, he also said.

"India is the mother of democracy. It is also the foundation of global democracy. Democracy is our 'Sanskaar', idea and tradition," he further added.

The PM also spoke about the Sengol which he had earlier installed in the Lok Sabha. "In the Chola dynasty, the Sengol symbolised justice, righteousness and good governance. It is our good fortune that we have been able to restore this pride of the holy Sengol.

He also said that when India moves forward, the world does too. This new Parliament will also lead us to the development of the world, he added.
