In its daily weather bulletin on Monday, June 9, the IMD reported that Rajasthan's Sri Ganganagar recorded the highest maximum temperature in the country at a scorching 47.4 degrees Celsius. Heatwave Conditions in Delhi NCR

Delhi and its surrounding areas are likely to experience intense heat between June 9 and 11, with temperatures ranging from 41°C to 45°C, as per the IMD's latest bulletin. Hot and humid conditions will be accompanied by dust-laden surface winds reaching speeds of up to 30 kmph.

Health authorities have urged residents, especially vulnerable groups such as infants, the elderly, and those with chronic illnesses, to take precautions due to the increased risk of heat-related illnesses. Clear skies and dry air will dominate the region, and wind patterns are expected to shift from southeast to northwest in the coming days. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for several northwestern states, highlighting the persistence of heatwave to severe heatwave conditions, with West Rajasthan particularly at risk.

From June 9 to 11, many areas in West Rajasthan are expected to experience heatwave conditions, with isolated pockets likely to suffer from severe heatwave conditions on June 9, the IMD said.

Rainfall Forecast for Southern and Northeastern India

While northern India battles extreme heat, rainfall activity is set to intensify in the south and northeast. The IMD noted that the northern limit of the monsoon has stalled around Mumbai and nearby areas, as well as some parts of eastern India. However, rainfall is expected to pick up from June 10 onward in the southern peninsula, the west coast, and the northeastern states.

Kerala and Karnataka are forecast to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall on June 13 and 14. The IMD warned that localized flooding, traffic disruptions, and damage to standing crops may occur in urban and low-lying areas.

In the northeast, states including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, and Tripura are likely to experience isolated heavy rainfall between June 10 and 14.

Thunderstorms and Warnings for Fishermen

Thunderstorms accompanied by squally winds of up to 70 kmph are forecast to impact regions like Bihar, Vidarbha, and interior Karnataka in the coming week, the IMD said.

Fishermen have been strongly advised not to venture into the south Bay of Bengal, the Andaman Sea, the Gulf of Mannar, and along the Tamil Nadu coast between June 9 and 12 due to hazardous sea conditions. The IMD has recommended a complete suspension of fishing operations in these areas.
