Delhi Weather Report: Thunderstorm Minimises Chances Of Heatwave Conditions In North India, Says IMD
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) scientist, Soma Sen Roy, highlighted recent thunderstorm activity in North-West India, particularly in states like Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan. These storms brought about strong winds and hailstorms, leading to a significant drop in temperature by 4 to 5 degrees Celsius. Consequently, the likelihood of heatwave conditions in North India has diminished, according to Roy.
IMD issued an orange alert in response to the ongoing thunderstorm activity and dusty winds in certain regions. Roy mentioned the anticipation of further thunderstorms in the plains, particularly in Punjab and Haryana, as well as in the western Himalayan region.

Delhi experienced winds reaching 50 kmph, and thunderstorms with heavy rains are expected to persist in Jammu & Kashmir and the western Himalayas, prompting an orange alert from the IMD.
However, Roy noted that East Uttar Pradesh may still face heatwaves.
Regarding heatwave conditions across India, Roy outlined the severity in East India, specifically Gangetic West Bengal and Orissa, where temperatures can exceed 45°C to 47°C. These areas may experience red alerts for several days.
For Eastern states like Bihar, Jharkhand, and Southern regions including Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Raiseema, and Konkan, heatwaves are expected to persist for the next two to five days, as predicted by the IMD.
Additionally, IMD forecasts thunderstorms, hail, and rainfall in 10 districts of Himachal Pradesh over the next 48 hours, with potential impacts including lightning, hail, and strong winds of 30-40 kmph in isolated areas.
