Delhi's Water Crisis: LG and Minister Atishi's Public Dispute on Social Media

New Delhi, June 12 - A heated exchange unfolded on social media between Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena and Delhi Water Minister Atishi, centering on the ongoing water crisis in the capital. Atishi took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to express her grievances, stating that a press release from the LG's office contained derogatory remarks about her. She highlighted the AAP's popularity in Delhi and accused the LG and the BJP of harboring resentment towards the party and, by extension, the people of Delhi.

LG, Atishi Clash Over Delhi Water

Atishi emphasized that political differences should not impede the supply of water to Delhi's residents, who are currently facing severe shortages. She argued that cooperation from the BJP-led Haryana government is crucial for ensuring adequate water supply to Delhi. In response, the Raj Niwas, through its official social media handle, refuted Atishi's accusations, denying any abuse and accusing her of misleading the public.

The dispute escalated with the LG's office releasing a statement accusing Atishi of making false claims about Haryana's role in Delhi's water scarcity and misrepresenting facts about the Munak Canal repairs. According to the LG's office, documents from a recent court submission by Haryana show that Delhi has been receiving more than its allocated share of water, contrary to Atishi's claims.

The statement also criticized the Delhi government for its alleged inaction over the past decade regarding necessary repairs to the Munak Canal and for failing to address the issue of water theft and illegal distribution within the city. This public spat highlights the complex inter-state dynamics affecting water distribution and underscores the challenges facing governance in India's capital.

At the heart of this controversy is a broader debate over resource management, governance, and political accountability in one of India's most populous cities. As both sides present their arguments, residents continue to grapple with the immediate realities of water scarcity, awaiting effective solutions from their elected officials.
