Stay Safe And Sober: Delhi Traffic Police To Ramp Up Anti-Drunken Driving Measures This Holi!
New Delhi, Mar 23 - In anticipation of the Holi festival, the Delhi Traffic Police has announced a comprehensive plan to enhance road safety and enforce traffic laws strictly. The advisory released on Saturday highlights the deployment of special teams across the city to monitor and curb traffic violations such as drunken driving and red-light jumping during the celebrations.

The initiative aims to safeguard pedestrians and motorists alike by addressing a range of dangerous behaviors. These include over-speeding, reckless driving, zig-zag driving, and driving without a helmet, among others. The advisory underscores the importance of adhering to traffic regulations to prevent accidents and ensure public safety during the festive period.
Strategically positioned at major intersections, drinking points, and other vulnerable locations throughout Delhi, these special checking teams will work in coordination with PCR vans and local police units. Their primary focus will be to detect and prosecute instances of traffic violations rigorously.
In line with directives from a Supreme Court committee on road safety, severe penalties await those found guilty of severe infractions such as drunken driving, red-light jumping, and dangerous driving. Offenders risk having their licences seized and suspended for a minimum of three months. Additionally, vehicle owners will face consequences if their vehicles are operated by minors or unauthorized individuals, or involved in stunts and unlicensed driving.
The advisory also extends a series of recommendations to the general public for a safe Holi celebration. It advises against drinking and driving, urges adherence to speed limits and traffic signals, and discourages racing or competition on the roads. Moreover, it emphasizes the importance of wearing helmets for two-wheeler riders and pillions, avoiding triple riding, reckless or zig-zag driving, and performing stunts on two-wheelers. The advisory concludes with a plea for celebrating Holi indoors rather than in public spaces or roads to ensure public safety.
This comprehensive approach by the Delhi Traffic Police reflects a commitment to maintaining order and safety on the roads during one of India's most widely celebrated festivals. By implementing stringent measures against traffic violations and promoting responsible behavior among motorists and pedestrians, the initiative aims to minimize accidents and ensure a safe environment for all during Holi.
