Delhi-Sydney Air India Flight Hit By Major Turbulence, Passengers Injured

Several passengers on board the Delhi-Sydney Air India flight were injured after the flight encountered severe turbulence mid-air on Tuesday, ANI reported.

The injured passengers received medical assistance on arrival at Sydney Airport. However, no passenger was hospitalised, it said.

"Air India B787-800 aircraft VT-ANY operating flight AI-302 (Delhi-Sydney) encountered severe turbulence. During flight seven passengers reported minor sprains," ANI quoted the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) as saying.

According to a report in The Times of India, seven passengers were injured and they were given first aid by the cabin crew with the assistance of a doctor and a nurse onboard.

"Air India Airport manager at Sydney arranged medical assistance on arrival and only three passengers availed of the medical assistance. No hospitalisation was required," the DGCA told ANI.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is conducting a probe.

Recently, a woman was reportedly bitten by a scorpion on a Nagpur-Mumbai flight. The incident occurred on April 23 but came to light today, The Times of India reported.

The woman was taken to the hospital after the flight landed in Mumbai. A message sent by a flight attendant to the Mumbai Airport to be ready with a doctor in order to treat her immediately.

"There was an extremely rare and unfortunate incident involving a scorpion biting a passenger on board our flight AI 630 on April 23, 2023. On landing the said passenger was attended by the doctor at the airport and subsequently was treated at the hospital and discharged. Our officers accompanied the passenger to the hospital and supported the passenger till discharged. Our team followed the protocol and conducted complete inspection of the aircraft and found the scorpion after which due fumigation process was carried out. We sincerely regret the agony and inconvenience caused to the passenger," Air India in a statement said.
