Delhi Polls: Chief Electoral Officer Responds to Kejriwal's Intimidation Allegations Against BJP Workers

The Delhi Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) recently addressed allegations made by AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal. Kejriwal claimed that BJP workers were intimidating his party's volunteers in the New Delhi Assembly constituency. However, the CEO stated that no written complaints have been found regarding these allegations.

Delhi CEO Responds to Kejriwals Allegations

In response to Kejriwal's request for independent observers and police intervention, the CEO's office sent a letter to the AAP leader. The letter explained that both the District Election Officer (DEO) and Delhi Police reviewed the matter. Despite this review, no written complaints could be traced in most cases.

Election Complaints and Actions

The CEO assured that all election-related complaints are being handled according to laws and Election Commission of India (ECI) norms. The letter emphasized that appropriate actions are initiated or recommended as per ECI guidelines in such cases. The CEO highlighted that complaints on the EC’s C-VIGIL portal are continuously attended to, inquired into, and resolved.

Since January 7, action has been taken on 115 complaints within 100 minutes in most cases in the New Delhi constituency. This demonstrates the swift response to election-related issues through the C-VIGIL portal.

Seizures and Allegations

The CEO also informed Kejriwal about ongoing efforts to prevent electoral malpractice. These efforts include active seizures of cash and liquor, with Rs. 36 lakh in cash and 144 liters of liquor confiscated so far. These measures aim to ensure fair elections as polling day approaches.

Despite these actions, AAP continues to allege foul play just three days before polling. Meanwhile, the BJP has dismissed these accusations as mere political maneuvering, maintaining their stance against AAP's claims.

Earlier, Kejriwal had written to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), urging protection for AAP workers. He also called for the suspension of police officials who allegedly failed to prevent attacks by BJP supporters. However, the CEO's letter reiterated that all matters are investigated thoroughly under existing laws and norms.
