Delhi Polls 2025: Ex-Delhi Minister Kailash Gahlot, Now With BJP, Resigns As MLA
Former Delhi Minister Kailash Gahlot has resigned from the Legislative Assembly, over a week after joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He submitted his resignation to Ram Niwas Goel, the Speaker of the Delhi Assembly. Gahlot had previously been a leader with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) before making this political shift.
On November 17, Gahlot stepped down from his position in AAP. He cited the party's failure to meet key promises made to Delhi's citizens as his reason for leaving. He accused the party of prioritising "political ambitions" over its commitments to the public. Gahlot also criticised Arvind Kejriwal by highlighting controversies like 'Sheeshmahal', questioning if they still uphold 'Aam Aadmi' values.

Gahlot Criticises Delhi Government
Gahlot expressed dissatisfaction with the Delhi government's focus on conflicts with the Centre and its inability to clean the Yamuna River. In response, AAP leaders claimed that Gahlot was under investigation by ED and CBI and had no choice but to join BJP. They alleged that BJP was orchestrating a "dirty political conspiracy" by misusing central agencies.
The day after resigning from AAP, Gahlot joined BJP in a ceremony attended by Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and BJP national vice president Baijayant Panda. Addressing speculations about his decision, Gahlot stated, "Some people must be thinking that this decision was taken overnight and under someone's pressure."
He further clarified that he has never acted under pressure from anyone. He dismissed claims suggesting that his move was influenced by ED and CBI pressure as false narratives being constructed against him.
The political landscape in Delhi continues to evolve with such shifts in allegiance, raising questions about motivations behind these changes. As events unfold, it remains crucial for parties to address public concerns transparently.
