Delhi Polls 2025: Arvind Kejriwal Launches 'Pujari Granthi Samman Yojana'; Read Details

Arvind Kejriwal, the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party, has introduced a new initiative called the 'Pujari Granthi Samman Yojana'. This scheme is designed to offer financial aid to temple priests and Gurudwara granthis. Each will receive Rs 18,000 monthly. Kejriwal announced this during a press conference, highlighting its significance ahead of the Delhi assembly elections.

"Today I am making an important announcement regarding a scheme. The name of the scheme is Pujari Granthi Samman Yojana. Under this, there is a provision to give an honorarium to the priests of temples and the 'granthis' of the Gurudwara. They will be given an honorarium of about Rs 18,000 per month. This is happening for the first time in the country. The priest is a class that has carried forward the rituals from generation to generation. They never paid attention to their family and we never paid attention to them," Kejriwal added.

Registration Details for Priests

The registration process for this scheme is set to commence on Tuesday, December 31. Kejriwal mentioned his plans to personally visit Hanuman Mandir in Connaught Place to kickstart registrations for priests. He emphasised that pujaris and granthis play a crucial role in society but are often overlooked.

This initiative marks a significant step as it acknowledges the contributions of religious leaders who have preserved traditions over generations. By providing financial support, it aims to address their long-standing neglect and improve their living conditions.

The announcement comes at a strategic time with elections approaching, potentially boosting support for AAP among religious communities. This move could also influence voter sentiment by addressing socio-economic issues faced by these religious figures.
