Delhi Police Intercepts Vehicle Claiming Punjab Government Affiliation with Cash and Liquor Inside

A vehicle marked as belonging to the Punjab government was stopped in New Delhi, leading to a police case. The car, with a Punjab number plate, was found carrying cash, liquor, and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) pamphlets. This incident was handled by the Flying Squad, which deals with election-related violations involving liquor, arms, and cash.

Delhi Police Seizes Vehicle with Cash and Liquor

The Punjab government denied ownership of the intercepted vehicle. They stated that the number plate was fake and linked to another car not owned by them. The AAP also dismissed the incident as a poorly executed stunt. Legal proceedings have begun, with a case registered at Tilak Marg police station.

Vehicle Ownership Dispute

The Punjab government clarified that the vehicle's registration number PB35AE1342 is associated with a Ford Eco Sport from 2018. However, the car seized by Delhi Police was a Hyundai Creta. The registration plate lacked High Security Registration Plate features, confirming it as forged.

According to records, the vehicle is registered to a person from the Army Dental College in Pathankot, now residing in Maharashtra. The government stated they neither own nor hire such a vehicle. The AAP echoed this, noting no entry record at Punjab Bhawan and tracing ownership to someone originally from Pune.

Political Reactions

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva expressed shock over the incident. He highlighted that Rs 10 lakh in cash, liquor, and AAP election materials were found in what was claimed to be a Punjab government car. Sachdeva criticised Arvind Kejriwal for allegedly corrupting Delhi's political system.

Sachdeva remarked on his 35-year public service career, stating he had never seen such an incident involving large sums of cash and liquor. He accused Kejriwal of institutionalising corruption within the Delhi government and affecting both Yamuna's cleanliness and Delhi's air quality.

Official Statements

The AAP described the situation as "totally fake and laughable." They pointed out discrepancies in vehicle details and ownership records. The party claimed it was a planted stunt with no driver present when found. They emphasised that owner details trace back to someone from Pathankot but currently residing in Punjabi Bagh.

The Punjab government's transport department received information about the intercepted vehicle carrying illegal items. They confirmed through official records that the vehicle's registration does not match any owned by them. They reiterated that the seized car does not belong to their government.

This incident has raised questions about political tactics and accountability during elections. Both parties involved have denied any wrongdoing or connection to the seized vehicle. The investigation continues as authorities seek clarity on this controversial matter.
