Delhi Police Arrests Four, Busts Major Interstate Drug Cartel

In a significant operation, the Special Cell of the Delhi Police has made a substantial breakthrough in dismantling an interstate drug cartel, leading to the arrest of four individuals. This operation resulted in the seizure of 15 kg of heroin, with an estimated market value exceeding Rs 80 crore. The arrests and seizure highlight the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking networks operating within and across state boundaries.

Major Drug Cartel Busted in Delhi

The individuals apprehended in this operation were identified as Dilli Ram, aged 31, Prakash Poudyel, aged 30, and Arjun, aged 27—all hailing from Manipur—and Sanjay Kumar Saha, aged 53, from West Bengal. According to officials, the contraband was procured from Manipur. It was revealed that Poudyel, Ram, and Arjun have been involved in illicit drug trafficking activities for the past three years.

Operational Insights

Deputy Commissioner of Police Special Cell, Amit Kaushik, disclosed that a dedicated team had been tracking an active narcotic drug cartel with operations spanning across Manipur, Assam, West Bengal, and the Union Territory of Delhi. On March 21, actionable intelligence was received about a significant consignment of heroin collected from Manipur by members of this gang. The information further detailed that this consignment was scheduled for delivery to contacts in Delhi near Rajghat Bus Depot towards Kashmiri Gate between 2.15 pm and 3 pm on the same day.

Acting on this tip-off, a strategic trap was set up by the police team, which successfully led to the apprehension of Poudyel, Ram, and Arjun. The operation yielded a recovery of 15 kg of heroin from their possession. Following their capture, Sanjay Kumar Saha was also arrested from West Bengal based on information provided by the trio.

Investigation Progress

During interrogation, the accused disclosed their involvement in a drug syndicate responsible for trafficking narcotics from the cross-border region of Myanmar into various parts of India. Deputy Commissioner Kaushik noted that further interrogation is underway to identify additional associates and members of this syndicate.

This operation underscores the persistent challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in curbing drug trafficking networks that exploit interstate routes for their illegal activities. The successful dismantling of this cartel not only disrupts a significant supply chain but also provides crucial insights into the operational mechanisms of such networks.

The Delhi Police's Special Cell continues its rigorous efforts to trace and neutralize elements involved in drug trafficking, aiming to safeguard communities from the detrimental impacts of narcotics.
