Delhi Police Books Mahua Moitra For 'Derogatory' Comment On NCW Chief
Delhi Police on Sunday booked TMC MP Mahua Moitra for her 'derogatory' remark on Rekha Sharma, the chairperson of the National Commission for Women (NCW).
The controversy began when a video emerged showing Rekha Sharma walking while someone behind her held an umbrella during her visit to Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, following a tragic stampede at a religious event that claimed 121 lives.

The video was shared on X and was perceived as insensitive by many.
Moitra reacted to the video by posting a comment that read, "She is too busy holding up her boss' pajamas," which was widely considered derogatory.
Things took a legal turn today when Delhi Police registered an FIR against Moitra based on a complaint filed by Sharma. The FIR was registered under Section 79 of the newly enacted Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with words, gestures, or acts intended to insult the modesty of a woman.
Meanwhile, NCW condemned Moitra's remark as "crude and outrageous," stating that it violated a woman's right to dignity and warranted action under Section 79 of the BNS.
Mahua Moitra's Stand
Despite the FIR, Moitra remained defiant, challenging the Delhi Police to take immediate action against her. She posted on social media, stating she was in Nadia for the next three days and could be arrested if needed, adding, "I Can Hold My Own Umbrella."
