Parts of the Delhi-National Capital Region experienced a welcome respite on Tuesday evening as rain and strong winds swept through the area. The sudden change in weather brought relief to residents who had been enduring scorching heat in recent days. Thunderstorms accompanied the rain, adding to the dramatic shift in conditions.

The region had been suffering from hot weather for some time, making the sudden rainfall a welcome change.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported that a Western Disturbance, along with a cyclonic circulation over north Pakistan and northeast Rajasthan, is currently affecting weather patterns. Additionally, another Western Disturbance is predicted to affect northwest India starting from April 26.

The weather department had forecasted the change, stating, "A dust storm followed by a thunderstorm with rain and gusty winds, with speeds ranging from 40 to 70 kmph, is expected to occur over and adjoining areas of entire Delhi and NCR within the next 2 hours."

Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 22.6 degrees Celsius, which is normal for this time of year. The maximum temperature is likely to settle around 38 degrees Celsius.

Weather forecast for this week

  • April 23: Expect isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall/snowfall with thunderstorms and lightning likely over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
  • April 26 to 28: Anticipate scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall/snowfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and possible hailstorms over the same regions.
  • Isolated heavy rainfall is forecasted for Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad on April 27.
  • Isolated rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) are likely over Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, East Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh during the week.
  • Isolated hailstorms are expected over Punjab and Haryana on April 26 and 27.
