Delhi-NCR, UP Weather Update: Rain, Fog And Hailstorm Likely On January 31 As Fresh Western Disturbance Arrive

Weather conditions across North India are set to change once again on Saturday, January 31, 2026, as a fresh western disturbance begins to impact north-western regions from the night of January 30, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The system is expected to remain active till February 2, bringing widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, strong winds and hailstorms in plains, along with heavy snowfall in the hills. Dense fog during morning and evening hours and an intensified cold wave are likely to make conditions harsher.

Delhi-NCR Weather: Dense Fog, Rain and Strong Winds Expected

IMD has forecast dense to very dense fog in Delhi-NCR during morning hours, with visibility dropping below 200 metres and in some pockets even 50 metres. Fog is expected to gradually clear during the day, while partly cloudy skies will develop by evening or night.

Light rain or drizzle accompanied by thunderstorms is likely later in the day. Strong winds ranging between 30-40 km/h, gusting up to 50-60 km/h in some areas, may further impact visibility.

• Maximum temperature: 19-21°C (below normal)
• Alert: Yellow Alert issued
• Air Quality Index: Likely to remain in the poor category (300+)

Residents of Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurugram can expect similar weather conditions, with fog in the morning and chances of light rain by evening.

Uttar Pradesh Weather: Rain, Hailstorm Risk and Falling Temperatures

Cloudy skies will prevail across both western and eastern Uttar Pradesh. Districts in western UP including Ghaziabad, Meerut, Agra, Aligarh and Bareilly, along with NCR regions, may witness light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds.

Eastern UP areas such as Lucknow, Prayagraj and Varanasi may also receive light drizzle. Dense fog, particularly in eastern districts, is expected during morning hours.

• Minimum temperature may fall by 3-4°C
• Maximum temperature likely between 18-22°C
• Alerts: Yellow and Orange alerts in select districts

IMD has advised farmers to protect standing crops like wheat and mustard, as hailstorms could cause damage. Cities such as Kanpur and Agra may experience thunderstorms, while Purvanchal faces a combination of fog and cold winds.

Rajasthan Weather: Orange Alert for Hailstorm, Severe Cold Likely

Most parts of Rajasthan will remain under cloudy conditions. Both western Rajasthan (Jodhpur, Bikaner) and eastern Rajasthan (Jaipur, Ajmer, Kota, Bharatpur and Shekhawati region) may experience light to moderate rain, thunderstorms and hailstorms.

Strong winds between 40-60 km/h are also expected.

• Minimum temperature: 4-6°C
• Mount Abu, Sirohi and Alwar may record 4-5°C
• Maximum temperature: 18-22°C

IMD has issued an Orange Alert for eastern Rajasthan due to hailstorm and thunderstorm risk, while a Yellow Alert remains in place for fog and rain. Farmers have been urged to remain cautious as recent rainfall and hail have already caused crop losses.

From January 30 evening to January 31 evening, the following conditions are likely across North India:

• Fog Alert: Dense to very dense fog in Delhi, UP, Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana, affecting morning travel
• Hailstorm Alert: Parts of Rajasthan, western UP, Haryana and Punjab, posing risk to wheat, mustard and gram crops
• Rain Alert: Heavy snowfall in hill states including Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir, with light to moderate rain in plains
• Cold Wave: Ongoing in Rajasthan, UP and Delhi, with lower night temperatures
