Delhi-NCR Residents Report Tremors After 5.6 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Afghanistan
A 5.6 magnitude earthquake struck the Hindu Kush region in Afghanistan on Wednesday, according to Reuters. The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported that the quake occurred at a depth of 121 km and was centred about 164 km east of Baghlan, a city home to nearly 1.08 lakh people. Initially, the EMSC had estimated the quake's magnitude at 6.4 but later revised it to 5.6.

Tremors were reportedly felt in parts of Delhi-NCR, with several users on platform X (formerly Twitter) sharing their experiences online.
The earthquake in Afghanistan occurred hours after tremors measuring 5.6 magnitude struck off the southern Philippines, AFP quoted the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
The National Center for Seismology (NCS) reported a 5.9 magnitude earthquake that struck the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan at 4:43 AM IST on April 16, 2025. The quake occurred at a depth of 75 km, with coordinates of latitude 35.83°N and longitude 70.60°E, the agency shared on X (formerly Twitter).
As of now, there have been no confirmed reports of casualties or significant damage. However, emergency services and relief organisations are closely observing the situation for any developments.
The Hindu Kush mountain region, located in northeastern Afghanistan, is known for its seismic activity due to its position in a geologically volatile zone. The area lies near the convergence of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates, making it especially vulnerable to frequent earthquakes.
