Delhi MCD Election Result 2017: Landslide win for BJP

It would be make or break for the Aam Aadmi Party which rules Delhi as counting gets underway for the Delhi MCD Election 2017. Exit polls had predicted a huge victory for the BJP and a drubbing for the AAP. The election saw a bitter battle between the BJP and the AAP with the latter also questioning the safety of EVMs.

Elaborate security arrangements are in place to ensure that the counting process goes on smoothly. 16 ballot counting centres have been set up for the North Delhi Municipal Corporation, six for the East Delhi Municipal corporation, and 13 for the South Delhi Municipal Corporation. Voting to pick three new municipal corporations in Delhi took place on Sunday, in which 54 per cent of the 1.32 crore electorate exercised their franchise.

7:09 am: 16 ballot counting centres have been set up for the North Delhi Municipal Corporation, six for the East Delhi Municipal corporation, and 13 for the South Delhi Municipal Corporation.

7:09 am: A total of 2,537 candidates were in the fray for the 104 seats each of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation and the South Delhi Muncipal Corporation, and 64 seats of the East Delhi Municipal Congress.

7:08 am: Polling was held in 270 out of 272 wards to the three municipal corporations of the MCD. Polling did not take place in two wards -- Maujpur in east Delhi and Sarai Pipal Thala in north Delhi -- where a candidate each of the Samajwadi Party died.
