Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi Directs Officials to Submit Daily Cleanliness Reports for Effective Waste Management
Mayor Shelly Oberoi has instructed officials to closely oversee cleanliness in their areas. They must submit daily reports confirming that their wards are free from construction and demolition waste, silt, and debris. Ground staff are also required to report daily on the cleanliness of streets and lanes, ensuring waste is transported to designated sites, according to an official statement.

The instructions were issued during a meeting led by Oberoi and MCD Commissioner Ashwani Kumar, focusing on the city's sanitation system. The meeting addressed several key issues, including the civic body's grievance redressal platform, the MCD 311 app. Leader of the House Mukesh Goel, additional commissioners, and senior officers from engineering and DEMS departments attended the meeting.
Sanitation Efforts and Responsibilities
Mayor Oberoi highlighted that junior engineers and ward in-charges must provide a daily certificate to the deputy commissioner of their zone. This certificate should confirm that their area is free from all types of construction and demolition waste, silt, and debris. The statement emphasised the importance of maintaining cleanliness across all wards.
During discussions with Commissioner Kumar, Oberoi stressed the need for thorough cleaning in Chandni Chowk. She specifically mentioned the area from Red Fort to Fatehpuri Masjid Road as requiring intensive sanitation efforts. This highlights the focus on maintaining cleanliness in prominent city areas.
Enhancing Waste Collection
The mayor also directed officials to speed up the process of organising auto tipper routes for door-to-door garbage collection. This initiative aims to improve waste management efficiency across the city. The MCD is engaging with various agencies through corporate social responsibility initiatives to enhance sanitation efforts further.
The meeting underscored the importance of collaboration between different departments to address sanitation challenges effectively. By involving multiple stakeholders, the MCD aims to ensure a cleaner environment for residents.
These measures reflect a comprehensive approach towards improving sanitation in the city. By implementing these strategies, officials aim to maintain cleanliness and address grievances efficiently.
