Delhi LG V K Saxena Distributes Appointment Letters to 47 Survivors of Anti-Sikh Riots
Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena recently handed out job appointment letters to 47 survivors of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. A statement revealed that six more letters will be given to successors of beneficiaries who have surpassed the service age limit. This initiative took place at an event in Tilak Vihar, west Delhi, where Saxena also mentioned that 437 pending applications are currently being verified.

The revenue department plans to organise special camps to expedite the completion of necessary formalities. Saxena instructed officials to consider renaming the Widows Colony, which mainly accommodates riot victims, based on local residents' suggestions. This decision comes ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections and has been positively received by the BJP.
Government Jobs for Riot Survivors
Providing employment to these 47 riot victims and considering a name change for the Vidhwa Colony reflects the bond between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Sikh community, according to Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva. The jobs come after a wait of over four decades, following Saxena's recent relaxation of qualifications for recruiting 1984 riot victims.
A Raj Niwas statement highlighted that this decision, delayed for years due to bureaucratic hurdles, has now allowed a broader range of candidates to become eligible for employment. This move is seen as a significant step towards addressing long-standing grievances.
Impact on Affected Families
Saxena expressed on X that these jobs signify a fresh start for affected families, helping them regain self-respect. He acknowledged that while their grief from losing loved ones in the tragic riots cannot be erased, compassion and understanding can help heal their wounds.
This initiative marks a crucial development in providing support and opportunities to those impacted by the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, demonstrating a commitment to addressing historical injustices and fostering community healing.
