New Delhi, Aug 10: Based on CCTV footage which clearly shows a Kanwariya smashing a grey i10 car on Tuesday, the Delhi Police yesterday (August 9) arrested Rahul alias Billa from west Delhi's Uttam Nagar.

Rahul is said to be a drug addict and was involved in a theft case in 2014. He had allegedly stolen gold and silver jewellery worth over Rs 40,000 and Rs 2,500 in cash from a house. He was then arrested and put behind the bars for around 6-7 months, and was later released on bail, said reports.

Delhi Police's DCP (West) Vijay Kumar said that during the enquiry to identify people involved in the incident, they scanned CCTVs in the area and mobile footage that were doing the rounds on social media.

The police had gone to Rahul's home in Uttam Nagar and questioned his brother-in-law who said that the suspect was in the neighbourhood. The police team then searched the entire neighbourhood before finally nabbing Rahul around 6.30 pm on Thursday, reported HT.

On Tuesday, a group of kanwariyas went on rampage, vandalising a car in Delhi's Moti Nagar after it allegedly brushed past one of them. The incident took place on a stretch of busy road near Moti Nagar metro station causing a traffic snarl and forcing some of the terrified commuters to take a detour.

According to police, the grey i10 car was being driven by a woman, who was with a male friend, when the car allegedly hit a Kanwariya. A heated argument ensued between the two sides following which the Kanwariyas damaged the vehicle with sticks, Deputy Commissioner of Police (west) Vijay Kumar reportedly said.

Recently, videos were put up on facebook showing Kanwar Yatris openly destroying cars by hitting it repeatedly with a stick and even overturning it.

Rahul was the main culprit and the man hunt for other co-accused in on.
