Controversy over a Love Marriage: Son of Delhi's Jama Masjid's Imam to marry a Hindu girl?

New Delhi, Oct 5: Shaban Bukhari recently has been appointed as the Nabi Imam. He will be the fourteenth Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid succeeding his father Syed Ahmed Bukhari.

Even before becoming the Shahi Imam, Shaban landed in a controversy. Media reports claimed that he is all set to marry a Hindu girl. The marriage ceremony reportedly would take place in Nov 2015.

According to media reports, Shaban and the girl were in a romantic relationship for a long time. The couple faced difficulties to get consent for their relationship from their family members.

The Imam of the Jama Masjid reportedly had refused to accept their relationship. However, he changed his mind later when the girl agreed to brace Islam.

According to media reports, the girl, who hails from Ghaziabad, has been studying Islam.

Meanwhile, other media reports quoted Amanullah, the office incharge of the Jama Masjid Delhi as saying that some Muslim leaders of Akhilesh Yadav's party have been trying to tarnish the image of the Imam and his family members.

The official was quoted as saying, "Shaban Bukhari is engaged with a practicing Muslim girl belonging to a religious family. The girl is a student of Islamic studies and is also memorising the Holy Quran."
