Nitin Gadkari Promises a Pollution-Free Delhi Within Five Years If BJP Secures Assembly Victory
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has promised that Delhi will be free from traffic congestion and air pollution within five years if the BJP wins the assembly elections on February 5. He emphasised the advantages of having a BJP government both at the Centre and in Delhi, stating that it would accelerate the city's progress significantly.

Gadkari made these remarks during a public meeting in Nangloi Jat, where he highlighted the BJP's commitment to addressing Delhi's pressing issues. "I give you my word. If you install a BJP engine in the city government, we will free Delhi from traffic congestion and air pollution within five years. I am making this promise," he said.
Infrastructure and Environmental Initiatives
The Union minister also outlined plans to transform landfill sites into gardens and educational institutions, promising to clear these sites within five years. "Gardens will be built there, academic institutions established... and the people of Delhi will be able to breathe fresh air," he stated, underscoring the BJP's dedication to ecological balance and environmental preservation.
Gadkari criticised the AAP government for its handling of water and pollution issues in the capital. He accused them of neglecting drinking water concerns and failing to purify the Yamuna River. He shared his vision of a cleaner Yamuna, where seaplanes could land, allowing people to travel from Delhi to Agra in just 13 minutes.
Road Infrastructure Developments
Highlighting ongoing infrastructure projects, Gadkari mentioned that work worth crores was already underway in Delhi, with completion expected by December. He announced new projects valued at Rs 35,000 crore would commence soon, increasing to Rs 1 lakh crore next year. He credited these developments not only to himself or Prime Minister Narendra Modi but also to the people of Delhi for electing a BJP government at the Centre.
He cited improvements like the Dhaula Kuan traffic decongestion project and six greenfield highways. "By December, you will be able to travel from Delhi to Mumbai in just 12 hours," he said.
Challenges with AAP Government
At another rally in Jangpura, Gadkari accused the AAP government of hindering crucial projects. "We gave money for sewage treatment plants but even 15 per cent has not been provided by the AAP government, leading to a lot of work in connection with the Yamuna's cleaning being stuck," he said.
He noted that vehicles contributed to 40 per cent of Delhi's pollution and announced plans to stop using fossil fuels. "We will not just make our farmers annadata food providers but also indhan data fuel providers," he said, mentioning advancements in ethanol fuel.
BJP's Vision for a Cleaner Delhi
The BJP's efforts to improve air quality include planning 800 hectares of open green spaces for clean air in Delhi. However, Gadkari lamented that these plans were not approved by the Delhi government. "Making Delhi clean and beautiful is our resolution," he asserted.
On waste management, he mentioned solutions for stubble burning and segregating 20 lakh tons of waste from the Ghazipur landfill for road construction. "Delhi must be freed from garbage," he stated.
Gadkari called the upcoming election a crucial moment for Delhi's future, urging voters to support the BJP for a cleaner and better city. "This election is not about deciding the future of BJP or Congress; it is about deciding the future of Delhi's poor citizens," he said. The elections for Delhi's 70-member Assembly are scheduled for February 5, with vote counting on February 8.
