Delhi Gets Its First Eco-friendly Pet Crematorium in Dwarka
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has inaugurated Delhis first eco-friendly pet crematorium in Dwarka, providing a dignified and eco-conscious way to bid farewell to beloved pets.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is set to introduce a uniform policy for the cremation of pets and stray animals across all its zones. This announcement was made by Mayor Shelly Oberoi during her visit to Delhi's first animal crematorium in Dwarka, developed by the MCD.

Dwarka's Eco-Friendly Pet Crematorium
The Dwarka crematorium is India's first eco-friendly crematorium for pets. It offers dignified cremation services for beloved pets, allowing pet lovers to perform last rites according to Hindu rituals. The facility provides a green technology for eco-friendly animal cremation.
Uniform Policy for Pet and Stray Animal Cremation
Mayor Oberoi emphasized the need for a uniform policy for pet and stray animal cremation across all MCD zones. This policy aims to ensure that such facilities are offered at nominal rates to the public. Pet lovers can avail various services at the crematorium, including dignified last rites, customary rituals with priest services, and other facilities.
Current Cremation Practices
Currently, there is no uniform policy for pet cremation in Delhi. Some zones offer free cremation services for street dogs through veterinary services, while others charge a fee of Rs 500. People often resort to cremating or burying their pets in vacant land, which lacks proper regulation and can lead to environmental concerns.
Affordable Cremation Services
The MCD pet crematorium in Dwarka offers affordable cremation services. For dogs and small animals weighing less than 30 kg, the cremation charge is Rs 2,000, while for those weighing above 30 kg, the charge is Rs 3,000. The facility has two CNG-operated furnaces that can cater to 10 private pets and 15 small stray animals daily.
Green Memorial Park
In addition to the pet crematorium, a green memorial park is being developed where pet owners can plant trees in memory of their beloved pets. This initiative aims to create a green belt that will help lower pollution levels.
The MCD's initiative to introduce a uniform policy for pet and stray animal cremation, along with the eco-friendly pet crematorium in Dwarka, demonstrates the corporation's commitment to providing dignified and environmentally sustainable solutions for pet owners and stray animals in Delhi.
