Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia on February 19 announced a new scheme in education called 'Mission Buniyad' aimed at developing basic reading and mathematics skills in student between standards 3 and 8.

Delhi Education Min appeals parents to cancel holiday plans during summer vacation, here's why

He said, "What is the use of teaching students if their basics are not strong? In that case, schools are merely doing a formality and not actually developing skills in students,"

Sisodia said, "I have seen that many students are not learning or developing skills appropriate for their age, several of them can't even read their textbooks or can't solve mathematics problems of classes below theirs and these students need to be developed. If nothing is being done at this level between standards 3 and 8, there is no use of working on these students after 8 because their basis will not be clear,"

He also said that several meetings have been held with local bodies, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), the New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) before arriving at the conclusion to kickstart the Mission Buniyad Scheme.

As per the scheme a mentor teacher will be appointed for every five schools in Delhi to access the development of students. NDMC and MCD are on the same page with the Delhi Government and will also appoint mentor teachers, and the responsibility of training the teachers lies with the Delhi Government.

Sisodia said that regular assessments will be held in all schools to gauge the development of students and for those students who fail to deliver as expected, will be given special classes for two months in May and June during summer vacation.

He has appealed to parents to proactively participate and coordinate with the Government to make this scheme a success for brighter future of their children, he said, "I appeal to all parents that if your children are not showing good results in academics, please send them to school during summer vacation to help the schools and teachers to help them improve,"

Asking them to sacrifice on holidays during summer vacations, he said, "I will request parents to cancel their holiday plans in summer vacations and send their children to school for their betterment,"

Manish Sisodia previously also initiated summer camps in schools, and also makes surprise visits to schools in Delhi.
