Dry Days In Delhi: Liquor Shops to Close On Diwali And 6 More Dates This November
With Diwali around the corner, Delhi residents are gearing up for celebrations but may need to rethink their plans if they include alcohol. The government has declared November 1 a dry day, meaning all liquor outlets-including English liquor shops, wine, and beer vendors-will be closed. Additionally, alcohol sales in hotels and restaurants will also be restricted on this day.

Full Schedule of Liquor Closures in November
November promises a series of dry days, limiting the availability of alcohol across Delhi. Here's the dry day calendar:
- November 1: Diwali
- November 14: Kartik Ekadashi
- November 15: Guru Nanak Jayanti
- November 18-20: Assembly elections in Maharashtra
- November 24: Regular dry day
These closures may dampen the festive spirit for those who enjoy celebrating with a drink, as the restrictions extend across much of the month.
The concept of designated dry days was put into practice on January 22 this year, coinciding with significant events such as the Pran Pratishtha at Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, where restrictions were placed on alcohol, meat, and fish sales. These rules have been observed in states like Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Other notable dry days in 2024 included Republic Day on January 26.
