New Delhi: India's first woman Paralympic medalist and president of the Paralympic Committee of India, Deepa Malik, recently urged people to become Ni-kshay Mitra and adopt tuberculosis patients. During her visit to the Ayushman Bhav Health Pavilion at the 42nd India International Trade Fair (IITF) on Wednesday, Malik emphasized Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of achieving a TB-free India by 2025.

Malik Stresses the Importance of Public Participation

Deepa Maliks Mission to Eradicate Tuberculosis

Addressing the gathering, Malik highlighted the significance of public participation in the Jan Aandolan movement to build momentum in India's fight against tuberculosis. She encouraged every citizen to pledge to become a Ni-kshay Mitra to at least one TB patient, stating that this simple act could accelerate the country's journey towards becoming TB-free. Malik, who is also the national ambassador of the TB Mukt Bharat campaign and a Ni-kshay Mitra herself, shared her personal experience of supporting 10 TB patients this year, all of whom have now recovered from the disease.

Caregivers Play a Crucial Role

Malik emphasized the critical role that caregivers play in the successful recovery of TB patients. She urged patients to complete their treatment in its entirety, despite the duration and effects of the disease, and not to be discouraged. Malik reiterated that treatment is fully possible and accessible at various TB centers across the country.

Deepa Malik's advocacy for the TB Mukt Bharat campaign and her personal commitment as a Ni-kshay Mitra exemplify the importance of raising awareness about tuberculosis and supporting those affected by the disease. By encouraging public participation and emphasizing the role of caregivers, Malik contributes to the collective effort towards achieving a TB-free India by 2025.
