A metre of matka silk costs around Rs 1,500 and the speciality is that it does not warm up during summer.

Like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Aditynath too makes a fashion statement. His 'Nakhooni Saada Kurta,' has become popular and many of his fans want to sport the same.

The 'Nakhooni Saada Kurta' is popular today because it is sported by the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath. Yogi took the stage by storm when he made the CM of UP, India's most populous state. And what he wears has become a fashion statement.

It was in the year 1993 that Yogi visited Bharatiya Tailors in Gorakhpur. That was the year he decided to take sanyaas and joined the Goraknath temple and math to become a disciple of the Late Mahant Avaidnath.

His tailor Buddhiram says that the first time he came, he himself had created the design. He himself would alter the design. Over the years, Yogi stopped visiting the tailor. However four kurtas would be stitched and sent to him every year.

Yogi prefers the round neck kurtas without a collar. His sleeve size is double the size of an ordinary kurta as he finds this comfortable. During the winters he wears a full sleeves kurta while in summer he sports a half sleeves kurta.

The tailors at unit as a principle never charge for the kurta. Instead they seek his blessings. This has been a tradition the tailors say. For us his blessings are more important and as a principle we never charge, the tailors also say.

The cloth for the kurta is sourced in bulk from the Gandhi ashram. Yogi prior to becoming a parliamentarian would wear kurtas made out of cotton. However after he became an MP, he switched to silk kurtas.

The matka silk is sourced from Kashmir, Karnataka and West Bengal. Matka silk is preferred since it does not get warm during the summers. The matka silk material which costs around Rs 1,500 a metre usually comes in the cream colour. It is then dyed in saffron colour in Gorakhpur and then stitched.
