Daily wage worker shocked to find Rs 1.26 crore in account

A daily wage worker in Andhra Pradesh was shocked to find over Rs.1.26 crore balance in his bank account. He had opened his account in Andhra Bank two months ago.

Vijayawada, Dec 16 : A daily wage worker in Andhra Pradesh was shocked to find over Rs.1.26 crore balance in his bank account. This happened in Amileypalli village of Chittoor district.

He had opened his account in Andhra Bank two months ago and had a balance of just Rs 192. He deposited Rs 250 on Wednesday.

Nazir later received a message on his mobile phone that Rs 1,26,76,436 had been credited to his account. He approached the 'bank mitra' and obtained a mini statement which indeed showed over Rs 1.26 crore balance in his account.

Shocked, he met bank officials who told him they have no idea how the money got deposited in his account. Income Tax officials are investigating the matter.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on November 8, announced that old Rs. 500 and 1000 notes would cease to be legal tenders in a bid to curb black money hoarding, corruption and terror financing. Since then, there have been several reports claiming that low balance Jan Dhan accounts are being used by black money hoarders to convert black money to white.

Whether this incident is linked to that is something for agencies to find out.
