Curtains will be drawn on the big fight between the Congress and the BJP in Karnataka as results of two bypolls will be announced on Thursday. Results of the recently held Nanjangud and Gundlupet bypolls are expected to be out by 11 AM on Thursday morning. In the fight for supremacy for the BJP and defending bastions for the Congress, it is to be seen who will emerge victorious. Counting of votes will begin at 8 AM on Thursday.

Siddaramaiah and Yediyurappa

In Nanjangud, the BJP hopes to snatch a victory with a margin of 7,000 votes. State BJP president B S Yeddyurappa who campaigned vigorously in both constituencies hopes to consolidate the Lingayat votes in both places. With Srinivas Prasad, the BJP hopes that it has managed to consolidate the Dalit votes but the Congress has a different story to narrate. The Congress is confident of a clear victory in Nanjangud with its candidate, Kalale Keshavamurthy enjoying massive support from voters.

In Gundlupet, the Congress is confident of a victory thanks to the sympathy wave for Geetha Mahadevprasad, wife of deceased Karnataka minister Mahadevprasad. While the Congress is sure of big wins in both constituencies, the BJP claims that it would win in Gudlupet with a margin of a massive 12,000 votes. In Gundlupet, the BJP is hoping that the votes that got split between the KJP and BJP in the 2013 assembly elections would be consolidated and ensure that its candidate Niranjan Kumar emerges victorious.

Both constituencies recorded huge voter turnout with 76 percent in Nanjangud and 78 per cent in Gundlupet. A divided vote share is sure to keep it a fight to the end.
