Cyclone Michaung: Severe Cyclonic Storm To Make Landfall In AP's Bapatla, Officials On High Alert

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that the Severe Cyclonic Storm Michaung is likely to make landfall in south Andhra Pradesh between Nellore and Machilipatnam, close to Bapatla, during the forenoon of 5th December. District officials are on high alert as Cyclone Michuang is anticipated to make landfall between Nellore and Machilipatnam, prompting a series of precautionary measures across the region.

As of 2030 hours IST of 4th December, the cyclone was centered over the Westcentral Bay of Bengal off south Andhra Pradesh and adjoining north Tamilnadu coasts near Latitude 14.3°N and Longitude 80.4°E. It was moving northwards at a speed of 12 kmph and is expected to intensify further.

The cyclone Michaung is expected to bring heavy rainfall to coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining areas. Wind speeds of up to 110 kmph are expected along the coast. The IMD has warned of storm surge of up to 2 meters along the coast.

The IMD has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea until further notice. People living in low-lying areas have been advised to evacuate to safer places.

The authorities are taking all necessary measures to prepare for the cyclone. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been deployed to the affected areas.
