Cyclone Biparjoy Weakens Into Deep Depression; Expected To Weaken Further

After making landfall in Gujarat's coastal areas, Cyclone Biaprjoy has weakened into a deep depression and is further expected to weaken into a 'depression' in the next 12 hours, India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in the wee hours of Saturday.

According to IMD, the cyclonic storm weakened into a deep depression at 11:30 pm on Friday over Southeast Pakistan.

The Cyclonic Storm “Biparjoy” (pronounced as “Biporjoy”) over Saurashtra & Kutch moved nearly northeastwards with a speed of 13 km ph during the past 6 hours and lay centered at 1730 hours IST of today, the 16th June, 2023 over Kutch and adjoining Pakistan near latitude 24.2°N and longitude 70.3°E, about 30 km northeast of Dholavira, 190 km west of Deesa and 200 km south-southwest of Barmer. In its latest bulletin, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the 'extremely severe cyclonic storm' was very likely to move north-northeast and cross Saurashtra and Kutch and adjoining Pakistan coasts between Mandvi (Gujarat) and Karachi (Pakistan) by the June 15 noon as a 'very severe cyclonic storm' with maximum sustained wind speed of 125-135 kilometres per hours (kmph) gusting to 150 kmph.
