The tragic incident at a 'satsang' gathering in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, where a stampede resulted in the death of 121 people, has turned the spotlight on controversial figure of Suraj Pal, known as Bhole Baba to his followers.
The chaos erupted as attendees frantically tried to collect dust from under the godman's feet, believing it to be a token of blessings. This frenzied rush led to a deadly crush, with men, women, and children being trampled underfoot.

A viral video on social media captures the godman leaving the venue in his car, with hundreds of devotees running after him to gather the dust.
Bhole Baba, whose real name is Suraj Pal, has a history of legal troubles, including allegations of sexual assault, reported NDTV.
Despite multiple cases filed against him in various jurisdictions, including Agra, Etawah, Kasganj, Farrukhabad, and Rajasthan, he maintains a massive following among his devotees. His devotees are drawn to his promises of spiritual enlightenment and blessings.
Suraj Pal, born in Bahadur Nagar, Kasganj, had a stint in the police department before facing legal troubles in 1997 related to allegations of sexual assault, for which he served time in prison.
After his release, he reinvented himself as 'Saakar Vishwa Hari Baba', attracting devotees to his ashram in his ancestral village.
