Central Railway Initiates Restoration of Height Barriers at King's Circle Station Following Vehicle Damage

The Central Railway (CR) began repairing height barriers near Kings Circle station in Mumbai's Matunga on Wednesday. These barriers, which protect a Rail Over Bridge (ROB), were damaged by heavy vehicles earlier that day. According to an official, the restoration is expected to finish by late Wednesday night.

Restoration of Height Barriers at Kings Circle Station

Swapnil Nila, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of CR, explained that at around 3 am on Wednesday, a truck collided with the sacrificial height barrier before the actual gauge at Kings Circle Railway Bridge. A few hours later, another vehicle struck the actual height gauge installed before the bridge.

Height Barriers and Safety Measures

Railways typically install an actual height barrier some distance from an ROB and another one a few metres away. This setup ensures that large vehicles do not hit and damage such bridges. Nila mentioned that railway employees are stationed to prevent excessively tall vehicles from passing through and causing further harm to the bridge.

"We plan to restore the damaged height gauge tonight and ensure the safety of the bridge," said the CPRO. This proactive measure aims to maintain the structural integrity of the bridge and prevent future incidents.

Legal Action Against Negligent Driving

Meanwhile, police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against a truck driver responsible for hitting the height barriers at Kings Circle station. The driver faces charges of negligent driving and endangering human life, according to police statements.

The incident highlights the importance of adhering to traffic regulations, especially when navigating areas with height restrictions. Ensuring compliance can prevent accidents and safeguard infrastructure.

The swift response by CR officials underscores their commitment to maintaining public safety and infrastructure integrity. By addressing such issues promptly, they aim to minimise disruptions and potential hazards for commuters.
