CPIs Bold Move: Breaking Away for Solo Fight in Jharkhand Lok Sabha Polls

Ranchi, March 10: The Communist Party of India (CPI) has announced its decision to contest in eight of Jharkhand's 14 Lok Sabha seats in the upcoming elections, marking a departure from the opposition bloc in the state. The CPI currently holds no representation in the Lower House of Parliament from Jharkhand.

Going Solo

CPI state secretary Mahendra Pathak stated, "We have decided to contest the Lok Sabha polls on our own. The BJP has announced its candidates, but the Congress and the Mahagathbandhan have not yet held any talks on seat-sharing. So, we have decided to go solo." The decision was made during the party's state executive committee meeting in Ranchi.

Constituencies and Candidates

The CPI will field candidates in Ranchi, Hazaribagh, Koderma, Chatra, Palamu, Giridih, Dumka, and Jamshedpur Lok Sabha constituencies. Pathak announced that the names of the candidates will be revealed after March 16.

JMM Raises Concerns

Meanwhile, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), which leads the ruling coalition in Jharkhand, expressed concerns over the CPI state unit's decision. JMM spokesperson Manoj Pandey stated, "It is beyond my understanding... if the state unit can take such decisions. Discussions on seat-sharing are already underway at the national level."

Current Political Landscape

Of the 14 Lok Sabha seats in Jharkhand, the BJP holds 11, the AJSU party one, the JMM one, and the Congress one. However, the Congress's lone MP, Geeta Kora, recently shifted to the BJP. Within the ruling alliance, the JMM has 29 MLAs, the Congress has 17, and the RJD has one.

The CPI's decision to contest independently in Jharkhand adds a new dimension to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the state. With the BJP, Congress, and Mahagathbandhan yet to finalize their seat-sharing arrangements, the political landscape remains fluid, and the outcome of the polls remains uncertain.
