Hyderabad, Jan 20: Favouring merger of different communist parties in the country in the changed political scenario with BJP coming to power, the CPI on Tuesday, however, said it cannot put a timeline to it.

CPI favours merger of Left parties
"We think it is possible. We think it is feasible, and it is necessary in the present situation at the same time, we don't put any dateline to it. We are ready to wait till a positive response from all sides from different communist parties," CPI General Secretary S Sudhakar Reddy told reporters here.

He was asked about the possibility of merger of different communist parties in the country. When pointed out that the CPI(M) doesn't appear to be too enthusiastic about the merger, he said, he talked about all communist parties.

"We are not expecting them to respond to this within 24 hours after we make a statement. I said it is not only CPI(M) but all the communist parties. People ask why do you have separate party when you are working together in carrying out struggles," he said.

Reddy said the CPI favoured a reunification of different communist parties in the country to carry out struggles on different issues, with the Left having an independent identity.

"Not only CPI and CPI(M). They are two major parties. Other communist parties which accept Marxism, Leninism, they need to reunite. If we want to go as an alternative, then we have to create confidence by fighting on issues. By fighting on issues of agriculture, industrial workers and the middle classes and others, we can emerge stronger," he said.

Reddy said his party has targeted to defeat the anti-people policies of the BJP in the coming two years.
