COVID-19 Cases Rise Abroad: India Reports 257 Mild Infections, Health Ministry Responds
In response to recent media reports highlighting a rise in COVID-19 cases in Singapore and Hong Kong, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) held a comprehensive review meeting on Monday. This session included experts from the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Emergency Medical Relief (EMR) division, Disaster Management Cell, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), and representatives from central government hospitals, according to reliable sources. The meeting was led by the Director General of Health Services (DGHS).

The experts shared that the surge in COVID-19 cases seen in Singapore and Hong Kong primarily involves mild infections, with no unusual patterns of severe illness or death reported so far. Based on the current situation and data, the panel concluded that COVID-19 remains well-controlled in India.
As of May 19, 2025, India's active COVID-19 caseload is 257, a relatively low number considering the country's vast population. Nearly all patients are experiencing mild symptoms and do not require hospitalisation.
India continues to maintain a strong surveillance network for respiratory viruses, including COVID-19, through the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) and efforts led by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). The Union Health Ministry has emphasized its commitment to remaining alert and vigilant by continuously monitoring developments and ensuring readiness to implement necessary public health measures.
